Ottawa Magazine Audrey'sI started this blog a little over a year ago to work more on my food styling and food photography. In the past 6 months I’ve had the chance to work for Ottawa Magazine. Usually the job is to photograph food in a restaurant setting with specific requirements given by the art director. This time I was asked to photograph and style five food trends they were writing about in the special Eating and Drinking issue of the magazine. The job was for full page photos, vertical with bright backgrounds and room for text. I was to shoot at home if possible and only use the restaurant setting if necessary. I was also responsible for props and styling. This was an incredibly fun assignment and I’m so happy that one of my pictures made the cover! Have a look!

All photos, except for the coconut cream pie (pink photo) were shot at home. Due to the complexity of the coconut cream pie I had to photograph at the restaurant, which was a challenge since they don’t have a lot of windows and I didn’t want to use artificial lighting on only one photo.

  1. Hooray! Congrats! The photos – and food – look great. Did I read things correctly – you took all the photos at home? Did you have daily food deliveries? And, most importantly, did you eat the food?

    • Thanks Jordana. For the ones I shot at home I called the restaurant ahead and had them give me the components of the meal separately. I then assembled and styled it at home and yes – then I got to eat it ;). The coconut cream pie one is so intricate and includes granita, that I shot it at the restaurant and they offered it me after as well. The free food is a nice little extra perk to the paid work!
