Surviving in Restaurant Kitchen

There are a lot of restaurant jobs that demand various expertise. As an example, bartending position might need prior experience for making a cocktail is something learnt by skill. The same thing is applied for chefs working at sauté station.

There are several ways that you can prove yourself in landing a position. One is shown in your resume of course but you can also use social media like by sharing tips or thoughts about the industry. You may grab some cheap Twitter followers too to serve as a digital proof of your knowledge and experience in what you are doing.

Not All Positions Require Experience

Then again, there are restaurant positions that are not strictly requiring experience from hopeful applicants. There are those who are willing to train people and welcoming those who have no prior experience.

When you found one, make sure to grab the opportunity and do everything in your might.

Be Open to Learning

If you are new to the kitchen or to anything that you are doing, it is highly recommended to take notes first. If there are things to be clarified, then make sure to ask questions. It is best to do a task right by asking couple of questions than trying to fake your way out of it.

Since you are a newbie, questions and mistakes are bearable. Though, make sure that you are learning as time passes by if you want to grow in this industry.

Don’t Disregard Criticism

When a member of the kitchen, let’s say the head chef gives you advice or direction, make sure to have both your ears open. Be ready to listen to whatever they are going to tell you. Preferably, take notes so you have something to get back on. Follow every direction carefully and with great intentions.

The first few weeks you are working in the kitchen will be like hell and there are lots of things to be learnt. Probably, you’ll be under a microscope for each move you do will be monitored. So do your job, practice professionalism and don’t make obvious mistakes.
